keeping beachgoers safe is just the start.
life saving is our number one priority, but our club also plays an invaluable role in protecting the health and mental wellbeing of our members, through fitness classes, training & education, schools programs, events, and more.
life saving
Through Life Saving Victoria we have responsibilities under the State Emergency Management Plan. these include the coastal waters around Williamstown, supporting Victoria Police in undertaking search and rescue in Hobson’s Bay, And through our jetski rescue service, our patrolling remit extends right across Port Phillip Bay.Over 45,000 beachgoers visit willy beach each year! Our patrollers look after the safety of everyone at our beach and beyond. And we’re also busy developing and training the next generation of life saving patrollers through our programs and events. These programs (such as Nippers, junior competitions, Schools programs and community water safety education) mean our club plays an invaluable role in passing on essential water skills that last a lifetime, to thousands of our local community.
competitions
Train and compete in carnivals with our Beach Competition teams, where lifesaving skills are put to the test in fun and friendly events. Events include • Rescue Board (Mal and Ski); • Surfboat • IRB • Beach events • Marching • R&RFor Junior Comps, contact juniors@williamstownslsc.org.auFor senior comps contact competition@williamstownslsc.org.au
nippers
**Registration for season 25/26 is now closed**Join Melbourne's most popular Nippers program! Last season we had over 400 registered Nippers and 19 registered Starfish Nippers, the biggest enrolment of a Bayside club in Victoria. Nippers teaches water safety skills to kids in groups from Under 6 to Under 13s. For kids of all abilities, our bespoke Starfish program tailors water safety with a higher ratio of supervisors to participants. fitness
our club is kitted out with a (lo-fi, for now) gym, which is accessible for use by all members. We also host fitness classes with our partners topboxing and doreen voiner yoga. all classes run by our partners are to be booked directly with them. Fitness with David Ly is at discounted prices for Club members. Email info@topboxing.com.au Yoga is also conducted on 3 mornings at the Club with Doreen. Email carmenbody.org.au
social clubs
The Boaties Bar runs most Friday nights throughout summer, bringing together our club members for a casual catch-up on the front lawn. Everyone is welcome to bring along a picnic and meet other WSLSC members.
OPEN WATER SWIMMING
Swimming has been an integral part of our club for over a century now – it’s in the name, in fact. Who can resist a visit to our beautiful beach, a cooling (or bracing) dip in the Bay, and best of all, a cuppa and chat while enjoying the afterglow that always follows as swim.Post-COVID, Open Water Swimming has become even more popular. You’ll find swimmers down at Williamstown Beach pretty much every day of the week, 52 weeks of the year. There are a huge variety of swim groups basing themselves in and around the club. The Willy Dolphins swim every morning. So do the Jellyfish The Williamstown Mussels meet at the club on Saturday mornings, 9:15am for “toes wet” at 9:30. And there are many more, each group having a slightly different focus, be it training, relaxation, or simply social.Feeling confident to swim in deep water and a variety of conditions is probably advisable, as most groups (although not all), venture out at least as far as the poles, some going far beyond. While the advantage club members have in being able to use the club showers and change rooms, membership of any of these groups is not limited to club members. (There are public change facilities, with warm showers even (!!) on the Promenade). Everyone is welcomed with a smile. And best of all, it’s all FREE!If trying out Open Water Swimming interests you, feel free to drop in and ask around. You may just find the tribe you have always been looking for.
